FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — A low pressure system off the coast of New Jersey could produce pockets of heavy rain and a potential thunderstorm in Fairfield County, according to the National Weather Service.

Rain will continue throughout the day with up to a half inch of precipitation possible. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible through 2 p.m.

The rain may make for a gloomy day, but with severe drought conditions in the county, it is welcome. Rainfall totals are up to 2 feet below what they have been over the past two years.

Sunny skies will return on Wednesday with highs approaching 60. These conditions are expected to last through the end of the work week.
