The storm moving north will track farther east, staying farther out in the Atlantic and delivering the heavier snowfall to Rhode Island, Cape Cod, Maine and Canada, according to AccuWeather.
The final day of winter, Saturday, will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 40s and an overnight low in the low 20s. That is unseasonably cold for mid-March. Wind chills will be 15 to 20 degrees.
There is a 50 percent chance of wet snow Sunday, mainly in the late afternoon. The first day of spring will be mostly cloudy with highs in the mid-30s, meaning any afternoon snow is unlikely to stick to roadways. Wind chill values will make it feel more like it's between 15 and 25 degrees. The best chance for measurable snow in the region will be across eastern Long Island and Southeast Connecticut.
The chance of snow increases to 70 percent Sunday night and into early Monday morning with 2 to 3 inches of accumulation possible before 3 a.m. Monday.
The exact track of the storm is still not clear, and accumulation projections could change again.
