Rain To Hit Bridgeport, With Strong Winds, Hail, Flooding Possible

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Get ready for a stormy Sunday. A system moving into the area overnight into Sunday morning is forecast to bring heavy rain, but it also could include severe thunderstorms accompanied by hail, strong winds and flash flooding, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday was cloudy and humid, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms into the afternoon and evening. The high temperature will hit about 80 degrees. 

Showers are likely Sunday, with an 80 percent chance of precipitation. The rain will continue all day, with heavy rain likely and thunderstorms possible.

Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds and heavy rain. The high temperature will be in the low 70s.

The potential for strong to severe thunderstorms could bring flash flooding, especially in the afternoon and evening. There could be heavy rains of 1 inch per hour. Heavy rains could cause flash flooding in urban, low-lying and poor drainage areas. 

Winds could be strong enough to cause downed power lines and branches.

Showers and a possible thunderstorm, mainly before midnight, will be followed by a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight into early Monday.

A total of 1 to 2 inches of rain from late Saturday night to early Monday is possible.

The rest of Monday will be mostly sunny with a high near 80.
