A light wintry mix began to fall in western Fairfield County at about 8 p.m. Monday, with icy conditions expected from midnight to 6 a.m. in coastal areas and from midnight through 9 a.m. in inland areas, said swctweather.com.
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in place until 11 a.m. Tuesday across Connecticut ad the lower hudson River Valley, according to the National Weather Service.
Sleet and freezing rain will fall, with an accumulation of an inch of sleet and a trace of ice.
"There will be a prolonged period of sleet and light freezing rain across interior portions of the tri-state area into Tuesday morning," said the weather service.
Roads and sidewalks will be slippery.
Coastal regions will be less likely to have accumulations of sleet, however it is possible those areas could see up to a half-inch. The sleet conditions will remain longer in inland areas.
The sleet will be more steady from about 2 through 5 a.m., with drizzle and more freezing rain possible. It will begin to change over to rain at about 5 or 6 a.m., with the changeover happening from south to north during the morning commute, swctweather.com.
