An Excessive Heat Warning is now in effect for Fairfield County through 10 p.m. Sunday as oppressive humidity and temperatures reaching the 90s will last through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Heat index values will be between 105 and 110 degrees on Saturday and around 105 degrees on Sunday.
The Excessive Heat Warning extends to all of the metro New York City area and most of Connecticut.
An excessive heat warning is issued when the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it's 105 degrees or higher.
Anyone with chronic illnesses, seniors and those without air conditioning should take special precautions to prevent heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Saturday's high temperature will be around 95 degrees with mostly sunny skies. There is a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Saturday, with a chance of storms lasting through 11 p.m.
Sunday calls for more of the same with partly sunny skies and a high again of 95 degrees. Again, there is a 30 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms. The afternoon storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain.
Experts suggest residents without air conditioning plan to visit a mall, take in a movie or visit a museum. Those in need of help or need to find a cooling center, should call 211 or visit 211CT.org.
