And it could make for a mess for Monday morning's commute and school day.

The rest of Sunday will be partly sunny, with a high near freezing, but wind chills will make it feel like it's 20 to 25 degrees.

There is a 50 percent chance of snow, mainly after 3 p.m. Sunday under mostly cloudy skies, the weather service said.

The likelihood of snow will increase and then continue into the evening and overnight, with temperatures near freezing along the coastline and colder in interior parts of Fairfield County.

There is a 100 percent chance of snow overnight across Fairfield County and throughout the Hudson Valley and Connecticut. More snow is expected in northern areas.

Overnight, there will be a transition of snow to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain across the interior parts of Connecticut. Closer to the coast, this will be more of a mix of snow, sleet, and rain.

Eventually all precipitation will change to rain by Monday morning with warmer air moving across the region. The rain will taper from west to east Monday afternoon into Monday evening.

The time of the changeover from snow to rain will vary across Fairfield County, and could cause problems for the Monday morning commute. Overnight lows will be near freezing, and rising to the mid-30s by Monday morning.

Slippery conditions should be expected Monday morning, with snow-covered roads and possible sleet or freezing rain in some areas.

In the northern parts of Fairfield County, new snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible.

Along the coastline, expect to get a half-inch to inch or more before it turns to rain.
