Bridgeport, Beware Of Black Ice As Temperatures Drop

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — As temperatures fall below freezing Monday night, melting snow will refreeze and could cause areas of black ice on roads across Fairfield County, the National Weather Service said.

Black ice will mainly occur on secondary roads in Fairfield County, according to the National Weather Service.

Motorists should especially beware on untreated or elevated surfaces because road conditions could change rapidly. Drivers should slow down as a precautionary measure. Pedestrians should also be careful on walkways and steps.

The area is blanketed by snow from the weekend nor'easter, which dropped over a foot of snow on Greenwich and Stamford and up to a foot of snow in towns along Long Island Sound up to Stratford. Snow measuring 6 to 10 inches fell from Wilton north to Newtown and New Fairfield.

The low temperature overnight will be 22 degrees under partly cloudy skies.

Tuesday will dawn partly sunny, but there is a chance of showers, mainly after 3 p.m., with a high near 41 degrees.
