FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Residents have just one more day of heat before a front sweeps over the area, offering a little relief from the heat and humidity, but bringing with it the chance of thunderstorms and severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.

In addition to the heat, state officials with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection have issued an air quality warning in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Thursday, for Fairfield County.

The alert, means that ground level ozone may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, making it dangerous for residents to perform strenuous outdoor activities, especially for the elderly and people with asthma, respiratory problems, or heart disease.

The rain and thunderstorms will move into the area later Thursday, bringing with it the possibility of flash flooding and severe weather.

The Weather Service is calling for a 60 percent chance of rain beginning between midnight and 3 a.m. Residents should expect patchy fog, heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Rain is forecast to continue throughout the weekend with higher chances on Friday, July 29, with an 80 percent chance of thunderstorms and rainfall amounts of one to two inches possible.

Saturday, July 30, will bloom with sunny skies, but resident's should get their hopes up as rain returns Saturday night with the Weather Service calling for a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms.

Rain will continue on Sunday, July 31, with a 50 percent chance predicted for the day and into the evening hours. One relief, is the temperatures will drop to a high near 80.
