The hot and sticky weather will stick around the region until Friday, when a cold front pushes through, according to the Weather Service.
The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality action day for Fairfield County, meaning the ground level ozone within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards for Wednesday and Thursday.
Hot and humid conditions will prevail today and Thursday, with temperatures hitting the high 80s near coastal areas, and 90s elsewhere.
With Thursday comes the potential for isolated showers and thunderstorms by afternoon and evening. That's when the cold front pushes down from New England, bringing an end to the heat wave.
Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 80.
The showers arrive later in the day Thursday, and Friday brings a 50 percent of more showers and thunderstorms, giving way to to partly sunny skies by afternoon.
The rain chance continues overnight, and gradually lessons on Saturday, though there is still a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, while the day will otherwise be partly sunny.
Seasonal, sunny weather is expected Sunday when the mercury will be a warm 80 degrees.
