A fire ripped through the home of a Fairfield County town official, leaving the residence uninhabitable. The incident occurred in Ridgefield at the home of Town Planning and Zoning Commission Chairman Robert Hendrick around 10:30 p.m., Thursday, March 21, on East Ridge Road. A Fairfield County firefighter was taken to the hospital and 14 residents were left homeless following a two-alarm house fire. The blaze started in Danbury just after 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 17 on Locust Avenue. Arriving firefighters found a 3-story, multi-family home with heavy smoke emitting from multiple sides, said Capt. Fire Heavily Damages Home, Displaces Residents In Fairfield County
A Fairfield County home was heavily damaged during a fire overnight as snow continued to come down in the area that received more than 18 inches of snow. The fire took place around 11:08 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 6 Sage Road, in the Lake Waubeeka area of Danbury, said James Gagliardo, communications director for the Danbury Fire Department. Three varsity baseball coaches at Ridgefield High School have been placed on administrative leave after extreme measures were taken to try and squeeze in a high school baseball game. The field at Governor Park was doused with gasoline and set on fire over the weekend in an effort to dry out a playing surface that had been rained on in advance of Ridgefield’s scheduled game against Amity. Some baseball fans had a burning desire to watch the Ridgefield High School team play baseball, so they set a local field on fire using gasoline in an attempt to dry the surface, police said. A Ridgefield High School baseball game against Amity scheduled to be played at Governor Park was forced to be postponed over the weekend due to poor weather conditions that impacted the field. Three-Alarm Fire Damages Deli In Danbury
A three-alarm fire heavily damaged a Danbury deli. The Danbury 911 center received multiple calls stating that a large amount of smoke was billowing from the Marcello's Deli and Catering near Lake Avenue and Hobson Street late in the evening on Monday, Jan. 14.
