Bridgeport Woman's Family Claims Police Mishandled Death Investigation The family of a Fairfield County woman who was found dead in her apartment are upset over the way her death was handled and intends to sue over the matter. Lauren Smith-Fields, age 23, of Bridgeport, was found dead in her apartment on Sunday, Dec. 12 by Bridgeport Police after an "older white man" who she met on a dating site called to report her death, the family said at a news conference on Sunday, Jan. 16. Sgt. Clifton Weed, 50-Year Stamford PD Member, Ancestor Of City Settler Jonas Weed, Dies A retired sergeant who served 50 years with the Stamford Police and whose ancestor settled Stamford, has died. Clifton Eugene (Skip) Weed, a lifelong Stamford resident, died Monday, June 17 at age 80. Weed was the husband of Mary Ann Weed. He was the eldest son of Lester A. and Mary Ann Weed. He was a 12th generation descendant of Jonas Weed, an original settler of Stamford. Report Of Shots Fired At Norwalk Community College 'False Alarm' A call to police reporting shots fired at Norwalk Community College sent local and state police to the school to investigate the incident. The call came in around 1:33 p.m., Tuesday, April 16, reporting they had heard shots fired on the campus, said Norwalk Police. When police responded in force, they found the call was a "false alarm," said Norwalk Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino. "I don't believe officers could find the caller," she said.
