Fire Breaks Out At Recycling Center In Stamford
Flames broke out in a large pile of garbage at the Stamford recycling center that was packed to rafters with refuse waiting to be moved. Firefighters received the call for a large pile of burning garbage at the station, located at 61 Taylor Reed Place, around 3:22 a.m. Thursday, said Stamford Fire Capt. Philip Hayes. More than 16 families including 27 adults and two children were left homeless following a devasting fire at a Fairfield County condo complex that also injured three people and a firefighter.The blaze broke just before 4 p.m. Wednesday at the condos located at 658 Success Ave., in Stratford, said Stratford Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal Brian Lampart. Kitchen Destroyed In Darien House Fire
This story has been updated. A house fire in Darien on Thursday caused heavy damage to the kitchen area of the home. The fire, which began around 3:20 p.m. at 9 Beach Drive, was contained to the kitchen by the quick work of all three of the city's fire department's, said Noroton Assistant Fire Chief Brendan Keane. According to Keane, the majority of the damage remained in the kitchen, with the rest of the home receiving some smoke damage. "Great teamwork by all," Keane said. Firefighters Rush To Scene Of Blaze After Hearing Explosion In Danbury
Danbury firefighters rushed to the scene of a blaze in town before receiving a dispatch call after hearing an explosion Sunday morning. The firefighters at fire headquarters heard an explosion just before the dispatch went off, said James Gagliardo, communications coordinator of the Danbury Fire Department. Three Separate Fires Break Out In Fairfield
Fairfield firefighters were on a run all day Wednesday responding to three fires in under eight hours in addition to EMS and alarm calls. The fire calls started with a call at 12:52 p.m., to a fire on the third floor of a home on Toilsome Hill Road, said Chief Kyran Dunn. Responding firefighters found an attic fire they were able to extinguish with damage limited to the attic area, the chief said. Twelve residents of a Stamford home were displaced by a fire that required some 30 firefighters to bring under control, according to the Stamford Fire Department. The fire started in the kitchen around 4:23 pm Thursday at 63 Soundview Ave., said Deputy Fire Chief Patrick J. Tripodi. Danbury firefighters responded to an early morning kitchen fire that caused extensive damage before it was extinguished by the homeowner. The fire started around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at a home on Woodbury Lane, said the department's Communications Director James Gagliardo. The City of Danbury Fire Department in partnership with the American Red Cross spent their St. Patrick's Day visiting residents to install free smoke alarms as a way to help reduce/eliminate fire-related deaths and injuries.
