Basement Fire Damages Long Ridge Home Residents in a Long Ridge home had to evacuate over the weekend when a fire broke out in a basement, sending smoke billowing through the house over the weekend. The Stamford Fire Department received a report at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, of dark black smoke that was spreading from the basement to the rest of the West Haviland Lane home. Two Dogs Die During Monroe House Fire Two dogs died and one firefighter suffered minor injuries during a house fire that broke out in Monroe early Wednesday morning. The fire started around 8 a.m., on lower Pepper Street, said Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Catalano.  When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy fire and received reports of a possible person trapped inside, the chief said.
