The rainfall from a strong storm system that swept through the area has moved east, but damaging winds remain. Winds out of the west at 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 miles per hour during the day on Friday, Nov. 1 could cause more power outages. If you are awake at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10 to "spring ahead" one hour for the start of Daylight Saving Time, you may see some snow. After dry weather Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, snow, freezing rain and sleet will arrive overnight Saturday night into Sunday. Gusty Winds Knock Out Power To Hundreds In Area
Sustained gusty winds have resulted in hundreds of residents losing power Saturday in the area. At 4 p.m., 328 are without power in Newtown, the hardest hit town in Fairfield County. Other outage totals are: Monroe (214), New Canaan (161), Greenwich (141), Danbury (136), Stamford (120), Norwalk (82) and Ridgefield (44), according to Eversource. Orange and Fairfield has the most outages in the area serviced by United Illuminating with 36 and 19, respectively. Did you remember to change your clock? Daylight Saving Time went into effect at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, marking its 100th year. Local officials also recommend checking and changing batteries on smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
