Ex-Bridgeport Police Chief Sentenced For Rigging Exam
A former Fairfield County police chief arrested last year for rigging a police chief's exam has been sentenced. Bridgeport's former police chief AJ Perez was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison on Monday, April 12. “I hold no malice to anyone, I did this to myself, I panicked,” Perez told U.S. District Judge Kari Dooley during his sentencing hearing. Perez, 65, was accused along with his former personnel director David Dunn of rigging the police chief's exam so Perez would secure the job in 2018. Bridgeport PD Adds K9 For Bomb Detection
The City of Bridgeport Police Department has added a new tool to help fight crime, Dennis, an explosive detective K-9 dog. The department was able to obtain Dennis, a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, through a donation from Sonitrol Verified Security Systems in memory of its founder, Dennis F. Hickey. Hickey was a member of the Bridgeport business community for five decades. He founded Sonitrol Security Systems with his wife, Joan Hickey in 1973. 17 Hires Give Bridgeport PD 100 New Officers In Last Two-Plus Years
Mayor Joseph Ganim and Bridgeport Police Chief AJ Perez welcomed the 17 newest police recruits training at the Bridgeport Police Academy this week. The 17 new recruits bring the total number of new officers to 100 since Ganim took office in 2015. Bridgeport Police Lieutenant Charged With First-Degree Larceny
A longtime Fairfield County police lieutenant was arrested for first-degree larceny, according to the Bridgeport Police. Lt. Stephen Shuck, who has been with the department since July 1983, was arrested Tuesday on a warrant and immediately suspended from his police duties without pay pending further investigation, said Av Harris, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.
