District free throw champion, Fairfield's Christian Homa, will travel to New Britain on Saturday to compete in the state finals of the Elks' National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest, where he will attempt to best his counterparts from the other districts of the state.
Homa earned his trip to the event by outshooting the district entrants from the area towns in the district at the area finals held in January at Fairfield Warde High School. In that contest, he ran a string of thirteen consecutive successful free throws to take the title in the 12-13 boys' bracket.
If successful in New Britain, he will make a trip to Portland, Maine to vie against the other five New England state champions, where winners will enter the national championships to be held in April in Springfield, Massachusetts. A contingent of local Elk members will accompany Homa and his family to the New Britain contest, which will be held this Saturday at 9:30 a.m., at New Britain High School.
