Bluefish win in matinee marathon

Luis Lopez collects game-winning hit in bottom of 13th inning

Bridgeport – The Bridgeport Bluefish (10-8) defeated the Long Island Ducks (8-9), 4-3 in 13 innings at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday afternoon. Bluefish hit king Luis Lopez won the game in the bottom of the 13th inning as he singled home Cody Overbeck to give Bridgeport their first walk-off win of the season.

The Bluefish scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first frame on an RBI triple by Brandon Boggs, which scored Sean Burroughs, who had doubled. Long Island than answered with one run to tie the game in the top of the third inning when Sergio Miranda singled home Jon Myers, who walked to start the inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Bluefish went ahead by a run as Burroughs doubled home Juan Martinez who had singled and advanced to second on a pass ball by Ducks catcher Brian Peacock. Bridgeport added a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Luis Rodriguez RBI double, which plated Ramon Castro who led off the frame with a single.

The Ducks then scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning off of Bluefish reliever Joe Bateman on a two RBI single by Cody Puckett on an RBI single, which brought home Lew Ford and Adam Bailey.

Bridgeport starter D.J. Mitchell recorded a no decision after going seven innings allowing only one earned run, four hits and four walks with six strikeouts. His counterpart, Bobby Blevins also had a no decision for the Ducks going seven innings allowing three runs, eight hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. Bluefish reliever Jaye Chapman (1-0) picked up going two shutout innings with two strikeouts. For Long Island, Jeremy Accardo (3-2) took the loss.

For the ‘Fish, Burroughs led the way (2-for-6, RBI, run) while Boggs had two hits and an RBI and Castro had two hits and a run scored.

Bridgeport and Long Island meet for the rubber game of their three game series tomorrow night, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Come out to the ballpark and enjoy Bridgeport Bluefish Baseball during Thirsty Thursday with half-price domestic drafts.
