Bridgeport Looks to Take Series Finale on Thursday

Lancaster, PA. The Bridgeport Bluefish were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-4 on Wednesday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Lancaster took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when left fielder Cole Garner drove in third baseman Yusuke Kajimoto & center fielder Blake Gailen on a two-run double. The Barnstormers held the 2-0 lead through three innings but in the top of the fourth inning, third baseman Sean Burroughs was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and came around to score on second baseman Ramon Castros two-out, two-run home run, tying the score at 2-2. That home run was Castros third home run in his last two games. Lancaster took back the lead at 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning on first baseman Gabe Jacobos RBI sacrifice fly. The Barnstormers added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Garners RBI single and brought the score to 5-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning on an RBI single by designated hitter Andrew Clark. The Fish closed the deficit to 5-4 in the top of the eighth inning on RBI singles by left fielder Fred Lewis and Castro but Bridgeport stranded the bases loaded after Lancaster used three separate pitchers to get through the eighth inning. Lancaster closer Jason Urquidez picked up his 22nd save of the season and second save in as many nights against Bridgeport after pitching a scoreless top of the ninth inning. For Bridgeport offensively, Castro, Lewis and right fielder Casper Wells each had two hits on the evening, while Castro drove in three runs. Tomo Ohka (6-10) started for Bridgeport and allowed four runs off eight hits and struck out five batters in six innings pitched. Lancaster starting pitcher Shunsuke Watanabe (5-2) earned the victory after allowing two runs off four hits in six innings of work. Bridgeport will play the final game of the three-game series against Lancaster on Thursday, August 28th with first pitch at 7:00pm. The Bluefish return to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to begin a seven-game home stand on Friday, August 29th as they face the Sugar Land Skeeters for the first of a four-game series, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm.Click here to follow Daily Voice Bridgeport and receive free news updates.
