Tomas E. Ramirez announced at this week's Bridgeport Board of Education that he would be leaving at the end of the year, and announced it to parents in an email Thursday, according to the Connecticut Post.
Ramirez told the Connecticut Post that is has been a hardship commuting every day to the school from Rhode Island, where he lives and his wife works.
This has been Ramirez's first year at Bassick. When he first joined the district, he went around to students' homes introducing himself in order to help build a strong foundation before the school year started.
The Connecticut Post reported that Ramirez came into his position with a 90-day plan to help turn around Bassick, one of the state's lowest-performing schools. He told the Connecticut Post that he believes his plans to turn around the school can continue once he's gone.
