State Workers Union Refuses To Discuss Concessions; Layoffs May Loom

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — The chief negotiator for the State Employees Bargaining Agent Coalition has turned down a request from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to reopen talks on major benefits, according to the CTMirror website.

Malloy, who is facing a budget gap of up to $266 million this fiscal year, is seeking concessions from state workers involving health care, pensions and other benefits, according to CTMirror.org.

Earlier this month, Malloy issued formal warning layoff notices to 45,700 unionized state workers in 32 bargaining units.

Malloy is hoping to force union employees to renegotiate benefits that currently run until 2022, in an effort to save $100 million in the state budget that starts July 1.
