The presumptive Republican nominee is expected to name Pence at a press conference at the Hilton in Midtown Manhattan at 11 a.m. Friday.

Pence, who is serving his first term as governor, will reportedly not run for re-election, the Star said. Pence beat out Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in the fight to be the vice presidential candidate on the GOP ticket with Trump, a former Greenwich resident.

The Indiana governor previously served in Congress and was a member of the House Republican Committee. Pence had endorsed U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz before Trump secured the nomination.

Pence is little known out of his home state, however, he made headlines in Connecticut in March 2015 when he signed into law Indiana's Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which many said discriminated against LGBTQ individuals by allowing Indiana businesses to deny them service.

Following that, Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy banned all state travel to Indiana and made headlines during an appearance on MSNBC, where he called Pence a "bigot."

“In 2015, we cannot, and should not, tolerate laws that open the door to discrimination against citizens. We need to actively stand up to them – and that’s what we did this week," Malloy said. "We are gratified that several other states, businesses, trade organizations and so many stood with us, and we are pleased that numerous states besides Indiana have sought or are seeking changes in their laws with the specific aim of preventing discrimination."

Malloy later lifted the ban after Indiana's state legislature adjusted the act, offering protections to LGBTQ individuals.
