Woman Struck, Killed On I-95 In Bridgeport While Checking Child In Backseat

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A 31-year-old woman was killed after she was struck by a car on an onramp for I-95 in Bridgeport while checking on a child in the backseat late Saturday night, state police said.

Enma E. Torres, of Mamaroneck, N.Y., had pulled over a 2005 Acura TSX on the onramp for Exit 27 on southbound I-95 at 10:55 p.m. Saturday, state police said. Her car was stopped, straddling the travel lane and the shoulder, state police said.

Torres was standing outside of the car, tending to a child in the backseat, when a 2001 Dodge Stratus driven by Katherine Hana Morris, 19, of Bridgeport tried to drive past her, sideswiped the car and hit Torres, state police said.

Torres was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where she died from her injuries, state police said.

No other injuries were reported, but there were four passengers in Torres’ car: 30-year-old woman from Bridgeport, a 7-year-old girl from Ansonia, a 7-year-old girl from Bridgeport and an 11-year-old girl from Ansonia. 

Morris was not injured in the crash, state police said.

No charges have been filed, but the case is under active investigation.
