Police in Litchfield County responded to Easterseals, a nonprofit that provides disability services, at about 6 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, after receiving a report that catalytic converters were stolen overnight, according to the Watertown Police Department.

Video surveillance showed that at about 12:45 a.m., a vehicle entered the parking lot, located at 320 Sylvan Lake Road in Oakville, and two suspects were seen walking around the lot, police said.

Authorities said one suspect was wearing gray sweat pants, a navy-colored sweatshirt, black sneakers, and a black ski mask.

The video showed this suspect crawling beneath the vans and using a battery-operated reciprocating saw to remove the catalytic converters, police said.

The second suspect was wearing black pants, a black sweatshirt, black sneakers, and a black ski mask, Watertown Police said.

This suspect picked up the catalytic converters and put them in the vehicle, which police said is believed to have been a black Acura TSX four-door sedan with silver rims, authorities reported.

Police said the stolen catalytic converters were all painted orange.

Authorities asked anyone with information about the case to call Watertown Police Detective Rivera and refer to case number 22-6042.

"In an effort to safeguard your property from thefts such as this there are several preventative measures you can take: Set up video surveillance, park your vehicles in an area which is monitored by the video surveillance; this area should be well-lit," the police department said. "Fences and gates with motion censored driveway alarms should also be considered to be used as deterrents."
