Reginald Sharp, 37, was arrested on Tuesday, July 23, after Stratford Police responded to a report of a preteen who was sexually assaulted, said Stratford Police Capt. Frank Eannotti.
According to Eannotti, the preteen met Sharp through Snapchat after he created fake profiles on several social media applications and then lured the teen from a residence where he sexually assaulted the victim.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Sharp, who is a convicted sex offender currently on the sex offender registry, said Eannotti.
"Parents should be reminded that they should closely monitor their children’s social media accounts on a regular basis as many social media applications can be havens for predators," Eannotti said.
The Stratford Police were assisted during the arrest by the Bridgeport Police Safe Streets Task Force and state Department of Probation.
He was charged with sexual assault, enticing a minor using a computer and risk of injury to a minor.
Sharp is being held on $2 million bond.
Anyone who has additional information about Sharp is encouraged to contact the Stratford Police Department Detective Bureau at at 203-381-2098 or can text 203-726-0275.
