BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Police are searching for 6-year-old Aylin Sofia Hernandez, who was abducted by her father after he stabbed her mother to death in their Bridgeport home early Friday in a violent domestic violence attack, police said.
Oscar Hernandez, 39, stabbed the girl's mother and a second woman, who is critical condition, in the home at 69 Greenwood Road at about 2:45 a.m., then fled with the girl, police said.
"This is a terrible tragedy and our department is on top of it," Mayor Joe Ganim said Friday at the scene.

Police have issued an Amber Alert for Aylin. She is described a Hispanic girl, with black hair and brown eyes. She is 4 feet tall and weighs about 55 pounds. Police did not know what she was wearing when she was abducted.
Hernandez is a 39-year-old Hispanic male with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is 5-foot-3 and weighs about 185 pounds. Hernandez is believed to be driving a silver 2017 Hyundai Sonata with Connecticut Plate AG-91925. It is an Enterprise rental car.
He was last seen traveling on Jennings Street in the Bronx, N.Y., but police do not believe he is still in that area. As of 11:30 a.m. Friday, Pennsylvania State Police issued an Amber Alert and said the girl and the suspect had been spotted in Altoona.
The house is in a quiet residential neighborhood off Summit Street.
A neighbor said she would occasionally see the woman as she drove in the neighborhood but didn't know her.
"This is a really safe neighborhood," de said. "This is a tragedy."
Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said there had been no domestic-related calls previously at the home.
But he said Hernandez has prior domestic-related incidents but not with the deceased woman and not in Bridgeport.
The two victims were not identified by name. But Aylin Sofia Hernandez’s mother, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The second victim, who was identified as a female friend of the mother, was in critical condition at St. Vincent Medical Center, but she is expected to survive, Fitzgerald said.
The Amber Alert flashed on cellphones throughout the area and is posted on highway signs.
Anyone with any information on the abduction is asked to call 911 immediately to provide information or report a sighting.
