The discovery went down around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, when a Trumbull police officer patrolling the area of Old Town Road and Oakview Drive, observed fresh tire tracks in the snow leading into the parking area of a vacant office building at 100 Oakview Drive, said Trumbull Police Capt. Keith Golding.

As the officer drove upon the lone car parked near the front of the building, he saw two people inside climbing into the front seat from the rear seat. When the officer approached the car, he could smell marijuana coming from inside, said Golding.

The operator of the car, Kaison Reed- Sheffey 27, of Bridgeport, told the officer that he and his passenger, Kayla Padilla 18, of Bridgeport, had just stopped there to smoke.

Inside Reed-Sheffey’s vehicle, officers recovered two plastic bags containing marijuana and a loaded handgun with a large capacity magazine, Golding said.

The gun, a Taurus 9mm, will require further investigation to determine its origin, Golding added.

Padilla had a small bag of marijuana inside her purse. She was written a ticket and released at the scene.

Reed-Sheffey was taken into custody and charged with, carrying a pistol without a permit,  having a weapon in a motor vehicle and possession of a high capacity magazine.  He was also issued a ticket for possession of marijuana.

He was held on $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20.
