Got Drugs? Don’t Flush: Drop Off Unwanted Items With Bridgeport Police

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Do you have prescription drugs that are expired or that you no longer want? The Bridgeport Police Department’s Community Services Division will participate in the National Drug Take-Back Initiative with a goal of keeping our kids safe and protecting the environment.

The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications.

“Our primary concern is safety,” said Police Chief Joseph Gaudett. “We know the potential for abuse of prescription drugs. In many homes, medicine cabinets or kitchen cabinets are lined with bottles in reach of children and teens.”

Often, people dispose of unused or expired medications by flushing them down the toilet. Studies, however, show that flushing certain medications can lead to contamination of groundwater and other detrimental effects on our environment. But there is a solution.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, the Bridgeport Police Department will accept all expired medication, supplements, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, or prescription drugs in pill or liquid form that you no longer need.

The collection site will be at the Community Services Division at 1395 Sylvan Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
