BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Four men were arrested in Bridgeport after a short car chase Wednesday in what police said is part of an ongoing investigation into violent crime in Bridgeport, Stamford and Norwalk.

At around 7:30 p.m. police engaged in a very brief pursuit on Beechwood Avenue that ended at the intersection of Park Avenue when the suspect vehicle hit a utility pole, according to police. Two occupants ran from the vehicle. A third suspect, 19-year-old Tyreik Gant of Stamford, remained in the vehicle, police said.

Gant, Smith and Morris were all charged with second-degree larceny and interfering with police. Their bonds were set at $50,000.

In addition, police said that a fourth suspect, 20-year-old Daniel Smith of Bridgeport, was arrested and charged with interfering with police and carrying a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $500.

Police said that this incident is a result of an ongoing criminal investigation into several violent crime incidents in Bridgeport, Norwalk and Stamford.
