Family, Friends Mourn 33-Year-Old Stamford Man Killed In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — A GoFundMe effort was launched Thursday afternoon to pay for the memorial service for a 33-year-old Stamford man who was shot to death just hours earlier in downtown Bridgeport.

Bridgeport police identified the victim of the fatal shooting as Max Antoine. He was shot in the torso while crossing McLevy Green in downtown Bridgeport after a party at an undisclosed location, police said.

"Love you my brotha. prayers and condolences to the Family. A True King! Your smile will be miss very much. R.I.P. Max," said one post from a donor on the GoFundMe page.

Friends of Antoine also mourned his death on social media. "What a tragedy. Another young black brother DEAD," said one Facebook post.

"Sad sad sad day. May you Rest In Peace my brother!!! Keep on smiling," said another post.

"I'm going to miss seeing you every week, always with a smile that lights up any room," said one more post on Facebook.

Antoine was shot in the torso and collapsed in the middle of McLevy Green, Bridgeport police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said in a statement.

"Several gunshots were fired at this location, and a male victim identified as Max Antoine, 33, was struck by gunfire," Fitzgerald said. "Antoine collapsed in the middle of McLevy Park and was pronounced dead at the scene. Antoine sustained at least one gunshot wound to the torso." 

The shooting occurred at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, in the area of 202 State St., between Main Street and Broad Street, he said.

"Detectives have been interviewing witnesses and reviewing evidence recovered from the area," Fitzgerald said. "A crime scene was processed by the Bridgeport Police Department Identification Unit." 

Bridgeport police detectives were on the scene into Thursday morning, gathering evidence, but all that remained by afternoon was police tape stuffed in a trash can. 

It was the seventh homicide of the year in Bridgeport.
