At 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, troopers from Troop I in Bethany were dispatched to reports of a motor vehicle being operated erratically on the northbound Wilbur Cross Parkway.
The vehicle had struck another car and continued northbound, leaving the parkway at Exit 59 and re-entering at the Exit 59 on-ramp, state police said.
Troopers detected a strong odor of marijuana after stopping the car near North Haven, state police said.
They found a loaded .380 Special pistol with one round in the chamber and seven additional rounds, a taser, less than half an ounce of marijuana, an open container containing alcohol and a steak knife, state police said.
Latrell Baker, 20, (dob 10/15/1996) of Bridgeport, was taken into custody and charged with three counts of weapons in a motor vehicle, carrying a pistol without a permit, possession of alcohol by a minor, possession of marijuana less than half an ounce, evading responsibility, failure to have insurance, operating a motor vehicle without a license, and failure to maintain lane.
In addition, three passengers, including one juvenile, were issued infractions, and a juvenile summons, for possession of alcohol by a minor and possession of marijuana less than half an ounce.
Baker was released on $5,000 bond and was scheduled to appear at Meriden Superior Court on May 24.
