The first fatal crash of the weekend occurred at around 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29 on Route 8 in Trumbull. William Pollock, 55, of Ansonia hit the back of a box truck and was taken to Bridgeport Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The second crash took place at around 8:15 p.m. on Saturday in Glastonbury. State police said Devra Koromanian, 51, was driving on Route 3 just before the I-91 off-ramp when she lost control of her car and hit a barrier.
In total, there were 494 accidents over the New Year's weekend, according to state police. Of these accidents, 54 involved injury.
State police responded to 6,885 calls for service over the weekend. They assisted 480 motorists. They also handed out hundreds of tickets and made dozens of arrests.
There were 611 tickets handed out for speeding violations, 20 for seatbelt violations, and a total of 1,410 moving violations, including unsafe lane changes, following too closely and distracted driving. They also made 28 DUI arrests.
During the same weekend period the previous year, state police responded to 276 accidents, including 34 with injury. Two of these accidents resulted in three fatalities. There were no other accidents with serious injury.
Last year police also made 34 DUI arrests, handed out 705 speeding violations, 15 seatbelt violations, and a total of 1,800 moving violations. They assisted 270 motorists and received a total of 6,987 calls for service.
