The program will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at the Bridgeport Police Department Community Services, 1395 Sylvan, Ave., Bridgeport, said Terron Jones, a spokesman for the department.
All types of guns are welcome including rifles, handguns and assault weapons, but they must work.
All guns dropped off should be secure in a bag or container and unloaded. No children should be brought to the event.
Participants can receive up to $75 for rifles, $200 for handguns, and $400 for assault rifles.
The department said local business owners are supporting the event in hopes of reducing the number of guns in the city.
The program is also a way to keep guns out of the hands of criminals who may steal the weapons during burglaries and also keep residents safe from an accidental discharged.
The event is sponsored by the Police Commissioners Office, Vazzy's, IBEW Local 488, McDonald's, Kilmar and AFB Management.
