Police spokesman Kevin Coughlin confirmed to the Daily Voice that the owner of the car was inside Ganim’s mayoral campaign headquarters at 1205 Stratford Ave. when multiple shots were fired.

Police received a call at 12:10 p.m. Thursday reporting that shots had been fired near the corner of Stratford Avenue and Central Avenue. No injuries were reported, according to police.

A police officer who was patrolling in the area also heard the shots and responded, police said.

At the scene, witnesses reported that eight to 10 shots were fired from a vehicle that was last seen traveling south down Central Avenue toward Orange Street, police said.

Ganim, who defeated incumbent Mayor Bill Finch in the Democratic primary, told the Connecticut Post he did not believe the incident was related to his campaign.

The owner of a nearby restaurant found bullet holes in his windows last weekend, the CT Post reported.

The shooting remains under police investigation. Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Bridgeport Police Department at 203-581-5201.
