Police say it's not clear how the student got the handgun through the school's metal detectors, but superintendent Fran Rabinowitz says "the gun may have been passed to the student through a side door which had been left open," News 12 said.
According to police, a student tipped off school officials that one of his classmates had brought the weapon onto campus. They say officers then patted down the student and arrested him around 1:45 p.m.
The student is underage, and police did not reveal the student's identity.
