The 26-year-old woman, who was seated in the passenger seat of the parked car, remained in Bridgeport Hospital on Sunday in critical condition, said the statement from Bridgeport Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.

Initial reports from the police department said the woman was declared deceased at the hospital late Saturday, but those reports were not correct.

At 9:07 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, patrol officers were dispatched on a report of shots fired at 1001 E. Main St., Fitzgerald said.

Preliminary information suggests that a vehicle was parked on the side of a building that is occupied by El Flamboyan restaurant and several residential apartments, he said. A perpetrator emerged from the side of the building and fired several rounds into the parked vehicle, Fitzgerald said.

The woman was struck by gunfire and transported by private vehicle to Bridgeport Hospital, he said.

The crime scene was processed by the Bridgeport Police Department Detective Bureau Identification Unit, and was being actively investigated by detectives, he said.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call the Bridgeport Police Department Tips Line at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
