Bridgeport Police Approve Four-Year Contract, Avoid Arbitration

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Bridgeport police union approved a new four-year contract Wednesday, but the officers will be back at the bargaining table by next year, according to the Connecticut Post.

The new contract includes yearly pay raises of 2.5 percent, health care concessions for retirees and more power for Police Chief Joseph Gaudett, but three of the four years of the contact are retroactive, the Post said.  

"I couldn't be happier for the work that our police union, city, and others put into finding a resolution that works for everyone involved," Mayor Bill Finch said Wednesday evening. 

The contract dispute could have been sent to arbitration if it had not been settled, the Post said.
