At about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, after an attempted street robbery, Bridgeport Police Detectives confronted the 18-year-old male and 16-year-old male robbery suspects in the area of 436 Woodmont Ave., state police said. During the interaction, an officer shot and wounded the 18-year-old with at least one round, state police said.

Bridgeport Police confirmed to the Connecticut Post that the officer involved was Hanson, a five-year veteran of the force. Hanson has previously won an award for helping to take down an armed suspect in 2013, and is also a military veteran, the Connecticut Post reported. He has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, the Connecticut Post said.
The two teens were armed with fake guns, the Connecticut Post reported. Hanson shot the older one as he turned towards officers with his fake gun, according to the Connecticut Post.
The 18-year-old suspect was transported to St. Vincent’s Medical Center and later transferred to Yale-New Haven with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The other suspect, the 16-year-old, was arrested at the scene by Bridgeport Police and was not injured.
The two were arrested on robbery and weapons charges, police said.
The Bridgeport Police are conducting the criminal investigation and State Police Western District Major Crime is conducting the use of force investigation at the request of the State’s Attorney’s Office.
