Bridgeport Man Pleads Guilty to Heroin Charge Stemming From Trumbull OD

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- A Bridgeport man has pleaded guilty to selling the heroin that led to a woman's overdose death in Trumbull last August, according to Deidre M. Daly, U.S. attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Jevaughn Watson pleaded guilty to selling the heroin that killed a woman in Trumbull this past summer.

Jevaughn Watson waived his right to be indicted before entering the plea Thursday in federal court in Hartford.

The 23-year-old had been charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, heroin.

According to court documents and statements made in court, police and emergency medical personnel were called to a home in Trumbull on Aug. 18 where they found a woman lying on the bedroom floor.

The 25-year-old victim was pronounced dead shortly afterward, Daly said.

Several “wax folds” containing suspected heroin, and some empty packets, were found in the woman’s purse, police said.

Investigators analyzed text messages on her cell phone that showed she had ordered heroin from Watson several times over the previous two months, Daly said.

Daly said the Watson prosecution was part of an ongoing statewide initiative targeting narcotics dealers who distribute heroin, Fentanyl or opioids that kill or seriously injure users.

Watson, who has been in custody since his September arrest, is to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in February.

The charge that Watson pleaded to carries a maximum prison term of 20 years, Daly said.

This investigation was handled by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s Bridgeport Resident Office, the DEA’s New Haven Tactical Diversion Squad and the Trumbull and Monroe Police Departments, with the assistance of the Bridgeport Police Department.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas P. Morabito.
