Alexander Davis was struck by gunfire while walking near the intersection of Brooks Street and Jane Street on Dec. 11, police said. He has been in Bridgeport Hospital since the day of the shooting.
An autopsy was performed Tuesday by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner, who ruled that Davis's death was classified as a homicide.
Davis's death is the first homicide in Bridgeport in 2017. The city finished 2016 with 10 homicides, down from 19 in 2015. The last homicide of last year occurred early on Christmas Eve when a 27-year-old man was shot to death on North Avenue. Christmas Eve homicide also occurred in 2015, when a teenager who was an innocent passerby was shot to death when caught in gunfire.
The victim, who was not identified, was declared dead at the scene of the shooting, near an AutoZone and a Popeye's, according to NBC 30.
