But on that same day, the Bridgeport police said they were near making an arrest in the shooting death of 33-year-old Max Antoine on April 20, according to the Connecticut Post.

Bridgeport Police Capt. Roderick Porter attended the rally and said the department is working the state’s attorney’s office to obtain an arrest warrant, the Post said.

The department needs to have probable cause as well as enough evidence for a conviction, Porter told the Connecticut Post.

Antoine was shot in the torso while crossing McLevy Green early April 20, after leaving a party at an undisclosed location, police said. His murder was the seventh of 22 that have occurred this year in Bridgeport.

At the time of the shooting, Police Capt. Brian Fitzgerald said several gunshots were fired and Antoine was pronounced dead at the scene.

In the six months that have elapsed, no arrests have been made in the case.

A GoFundMe page set up in Antoine’s honor raised $21,408 to pay for his memorial services.

"We are truly saddened a father a son a brother an uncle and a friend was lost. We need your help and support," the GoFundMe said.

Friends of Antoine also mourned his death on social media. "What a tragedy. Another young black brother DEAD," said one Facebook post.

"I'm going to miss seeing you every week, always with a smile that lights up any room," said another post on Facebook.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Bridgeport police at 203-576-TIPS (8477).
