BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Stephen M. Swetz, 93, a longtime Bridgeport resident, died Saturday, May 2.

He was born Feb. 8, 1922, in Sheppton, Pa., to John and Ann Krynock Swetz.

He served as a staff sergeant during World War II in the Army Air Corps and flew 50 missions over Europe.

Swetz then worked as a paint sprayer at Dresser Manufacturing, retiring after 42 years of employment.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Patrick) Matera of Shelton and Carol (John) Wengertsman of Manchester; one son, Stephen (Laura) Swetz of Islip, N.Y.; one brother, Wasil Swetz of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary Palacino Swetz; five brothers; and two sisters, preceded him in death.

Calling hours will be 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Andrew Church, 395 Anton St., Bridgeport.

Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
