RoseMarie Demeter, 88, Lifelong Bridgeport Resident

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. --RoseMarie Sastre Demeter, a lifelong Bridgeport resident, died on Monday, Feb. 29. She was 88.

Demeter worked for the Pepperidge Farms Bakery for over 20 years, until her retirement. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Emery's Church and belonged to the St. Emery's Seniors group and enjoyed its bus trips with her friends.

She enjoyed cooking for her family, doting on her grandchildren and the occasional trip to the casino.

Demeter is survived by her sons, John Demeter and his wife Kathryn, and Joseph Demeter and his wife Jackie, all of Bridgeport; grandchildren John Demeter and Joseph Demeter Jr. and Jaclyn Demeter; brother Joseph Sastre of Woodmont; and a special nephew, Roger Lasky, who she considered her third son.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Demeter, sister Dolores Sastre and best friend Ellie O'Donnell.

Visiting hours will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 4, at the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Rd., Fairfield Center. Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday directly at St. Emery's Church, 838 Kings Highway, in Fairfield, with burial to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery.
