Marie Maiocco, 98, Former Longtime Resident Of Bridgeport

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Marie Nicola Benedetto Maiocco of Delray Beach, formerly of Bridgeport and Trumbull, Conn., died Tuesday, Dec. 9. She was 98.

Maiocco was born May 13, 1916, in Bridgeport, to Louis and Columba Donatelli Benedetto. She was a longtime resident of Bridgeport and Trumbull before moving to Delray Beach. In 1952 she founded Marie's Bridal Shoppe on Frank Street in Bridgeport, which later was moved to Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, Conn.

She retired with her husband to Delray Beach in 1979. She was involved in the Madonna Guild and was a Eucharistic minister. She also worked for many years in the gift shop at St. Thomas Moore Church of Boynton Beach, Fla.

Maiocco is survived by her sons, Leonard Maiocco (Judith) of Broomfield, Colo., and Robert Maiocco (Marji) of Milford, N.H.; brother, Frank Benedetto of Boynton Beach; daughter-in-law, Mary Maiocco of Stratford, Conn.; and eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Egidio; son, Richard Maiocco; granddaughter, Jenni Maiocco Wheeler; brothers, Thomas, Leonard and Columbo (Jack) Benedetto; sister, Lucy Orticelli; and niece, Filomena Ricci Benedetto.

Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, at Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull. Entombment will follow in St Michael's Cemetery, Chapel Mausoleum, Stratford.
