FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Here's a look at the top stories of the past week across Fairfield County.

In the wake of a mass shooting in California, the Rev. Tom Lynch, pastor at St. James Church in Stratford, used his sermon to call for Catholics to demand national gun reform and a ban on assault rifles, a bold move met with cheers and standing ovations.

Connecticut took historic steps to strengthen its already tight guns laws as Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced plans to sign a first-in-the-nation executive order that would deny firearm permits to those on the government watchlists.

Hours later, the ENOUGH Campaign held a vigil in Stamford, lighting candles for victims of gun violence.
