The Watermark at 3030 Park Hosts Parkinson’s Support Group and Bi-Weekly Parkinson’s Fitness Classes

By CHRISTINA GRIFFIN

Bridgeport – On Thursday, October 9, The Watermark at 3030 Park will host its monthly Parkinson’s Support Group meeting, along with its Parkinson’s Fitness Class, which is held every Tuesday and Thursday. The support group will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by the fitness class at 12:45. Both are held at the senior living community located at 3030 Park Avenue on the Bridgeport-Fairfield town line.

This month’s guest speaker will be Dr. Marisa Moro de Casillas, a Norwich-based movement disorder specialist. Dr. Moro de Casillas will discuss the latest research and treatment information for people living with Parkinson’s disease, as well as participate in a question and answer period from the audience.

“Dr. Moro de Casillas is an expert not only in Parkinson’s disease, but other movement disorders including Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s disease and Restless Leg Syndrome,” said Marlane Argianas, Resident Services Coordinator at The Watermark at 3030 Park. “We look forward to her unique perspective on the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions, and hope that our residents, guests and support group members will gain a better understanding of the treatment options available to them.”

In addition, Christopher Bailey, a representative for US WorldMeds, will be on-hand to discuss Apokyn, a new injection treatment designed to help those living with Parkinson’s walk, talk, and move around with greater ease during their daily routines.

Following the monthly Parkinson’s Support Group meetings, The Watermark also offers a bi-weekly fitness class consisting of balance and strengthening exercises with a focus on the needs of those living with Parkinson’s. The class, led by The Watermark’s Fitness Director Cindy McGuire, meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week at 12:45. There is a small participation fee for this class, and reservations are required.
