Study: Casino In Fairfield County Would Bring Economic Benefits

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Locating a third casino in the state is all about location, and one located in the Bridgeport area would bring the most economic benefits to the state, according to a MGM Resorts International study cited by the Hartford Courant.

The report examined three options: A casino with a cost of $553 million in the Hartford area; no new casinos in the state; and a casino with a cost of $1 billion in the Bridgeport area. The study showed that a casino in Bridgeport would create 5,734 additional jobs versus doing nothing, and the Hartford casino plan would generate 2,080 jobs, reported the Hartford Courant.

The report comes a week after a bill was introduced in the legislature calling for a study of the gaming industry in the state that would examine how a third casino would affect jobs and revenue, and whether other areas of the state should be considered, said the Hartford Courant.
