Snow Begins To Pile Up In Bridgeport After Storms

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Even as light snow continued to fall late Monday night, the National Weather Service released snowfall totals for the storm Monday that caused many accidents and sent students home early across Fairfield County.

Another 1 to 2 inches was possible overnight into Tuesday. 

The Monday snowfall, which began at the end of the morning rush hour, lasted all day and caused many problems. Spinouts and jack-knifes were reported on I-95 and the Merritt Parkway, and a bus rollover in Madison left dozens of people injured. 

The National Weather Service is predicting snow showers through Wednesday for Fairfield County, but with little new accumulation.

On Tuesday, there is a 30 percent chance of light snow under cloudy skies and a high near 32. The chance of snow increases in the evening, but less than an inch is expected.

Wednesday brings a 30 percent chance of light snow, mainly before 10 a.m., with a high near 38 degrees. 

But the snow may be the least of our worries — low temperatures below zero are in the forecast for the weekend.

  • New Fairfield: 5 inches
  • Brookfield: 4 inches
  • Westport: 4 inches
  • Danbury: 4 inches
  • New Canaan: 3.8 inches
  • Sikorsky Airport: 3.5 inches
  • Fairfield: 3 inches
  • Wilton: 3 inches
  • Greenwich: 3 inches
  • Darien: 2 inches
