Huynh, a sonar technician 3rd class, was one of seven sailors who died onboard the USS Fitzgerald in the collision.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 6, at 2 p.m. at the Oakville Green on Route 73 in Oakville. A funeral service will take place at the same time in Oklahoma, where his family now lives.
His family moved to Connecticut when he was in eighth grade, NBC Connecticut said.
He graduated from Watertown High and attended Naugatuck Valley Community College before joining the Navy in 2014, NBC Connecticut said.
His family moved to Oklahoma after Huynh enlisted, NBC said.
U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy have called for an investigation into the accident.
