A Connecticut police officer is being hailed for rescuing a slow-moving reptile from a highly-travelled roadway, the Enfield Police Department said.
The officer noticed a massive snapping turtle, with a circumference of about 18 inches, in the middle of Taylor Road in Enfield. He got out of his cruiser and safely moved the 40-pound reptile to the side of the road.
Given its size, police said the turtle could be 100 years old. People flooded the comments section of the department's post praising the officer's efforts.
"Awesome Officer for caring enough to save this creature and return it to its familiar environment," one person said.
"Thank you to the officer," another wrote. "I’m happy the turtle is safe."
