Surveys suggest that 52 percent of people believe it is more important to protect the rights of American people to own a gun and 46 percent say it is more important to control gun ownership, the report said.
More supported gun control measures in January and February 2013 after the Newtown tragedy, the report said. But since then, support for gun rights has increased by 7 percentage points from 45 percent to 52 percent and approval of gun control fell 5 percentage points from 51 percent to 46 percent, the report said.
